This day was an unforgettable day for me as I got my first Wahoo from a kayak and two unforgettable Mahis to include this giant bull. My day started at 4:30 AM as I arrived one of my favorite spots on the Northwest of the island of Guam. As I get my gear ready, the breeze and the sound of the crashing waves on the reef line, which is the gateway to the ocean at about 300 yards from the shore, engulfed me. With some doubt about my chances to punch through that as I could not see the conditions in the dark. I decided to get ready and wait for first light to give me the ability to determine whether I would have to seek another spot further south.
After the first ray of sun showed me a path, I committed and with my Hobie Pro Angler 14, I was on my way to big deep water. On this particular day I decided to visit a FAD (Fishing Attraction Device) called the Haputo Buoy, which is about five miles from shore. On my way there, I got my Wahoo within 30 minutes of setting my lines. After that, the bite went cold and I had no strikes for a while, so I decided to parallel the ridge line within a mile or two from the shore when this bull Mahi hit my trolling lure making my Truth Reel LGN scream like never before. The rest is history in the making.
